Kris Pedersen, MA CCC-SLP, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing where her work focuses on early intervention practices. She specializes in speech and language services for children from birth to age five, along with evidence-based practices in early intervention.
Kris received her Master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and her Bachelor’s from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. A native of the Chicago-area, Kris joined the SPLH Department at KU in 1997 working in the Language Acquisition Preschool and as Project Coordinator for the Communication and Autism Project. She joined the clinical faculty in 2005.

Kris currently teaches the SPLH 868 Professional Issues in Speech-Language Pathology for second year Master’s students and Clinical Practicum (SPLH 862/864/672) to both graduate and undergraduate students. Using the Kansas Teaching, Educating and Mentoring (K-TEAM) model of clinical education, she facilitates the Learning through Everyday Activities and Partnerships (LEAP) team. Her team of practicum students provides speech-language services to children ages birth-three and their families in home and community settings. She maintains a contract with Northeast Kansas Infant-Toddler Services and Keystone Learning Services to provide these practicum opportunities for students.
Kris’ clinical research and practice focuses on service delivery models in home and community based settings with emphasis on the use of natural learning opportunities, capacity-building techniques, and collaborative models of support. She also explores the use of speech and language interventions in home and community settings, with emphasis on interventions for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Speech Sound Disorders.
Kris is active in supporting evidence-based practices in early Intervention throughout the state of Kansas. She serves as Assistant Coordinator for the Northeast Kansas Infant Toddler Program and serves on the Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association Executive Board. Kris is also serves on the Council for Graduate Studies and is the Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing. She recently became the Kansas Children Action Network Coordinator and Partnership Liaison for the Division of Early Childhood (DEC) and is a member of the DEC Policy and Advocacy Council.
